Dual entry design, also known as the on-stage/off-stage model, in healthcare shifts corridor environments from areas shared between patients and providers to separate zones with shared flex spaces. Employee workstations are moved to a private (off-stage) area, and patients enter exam rooms through (on-stage) dedicated patient entryways. This design increases client comfort as well as staff efficiency because it streamlines patient experience for shorter wait times and provides private collaboration spaces that are near exam rooms. By providing shorter distances to and from exam rooms and easing hallway congestion, dual entry design allows for more fluid occupant movement.
"We were able to bring together units that had previously worked separately and offer a wide variety of spaces and functions in an efficient footprint."
